Queensland ROA Run

Under cloudy skies and light rain, an enthusiastic group of ROA and Buick members gathered at Cameron Park, Booval for our combined ROA/Buick Club Run in the country. 27 members, guests and families braved the wet conditions which at that point, looked like continuing. We were very pleased to see some of our new members come along and join us for the day – Terry and Barbara Searle and team, Adam and Sharon Woodley with Jake and Chevy – welcome to the Buick family of friends.

A slight change of plans due to the weather saw us have our club meeting in the shelter at the park. Although the rain eased off, we all decided to have morning tea before we left instead of our planned stop in a park in a country village on the way to our lunch destination.

After this, we headed off for our run, following our run notes provided. Thankfully the rain stopped as we drove through Ipswich and out through Peak Crossing and on to the town of Boonah. Our destination was Mt. Alford, some 15 kl. past Boonah. The road was good, not much traffic and the rain had stopped – hooray! We all made it safely to the Mt. Alford Hotel (although some arrived a little late after missing a turn).

The Mt. Alford Hotel is a great little country pub with friendly owners (Dave and Dad) and the meals were terrific. ROA members were invited to take part in a competition for some special Riviera prizes. The answers to the questions on the competition sheet were
contained in previous Australian Riviews – so if you read your Riview you would have had a great shot at the answers. Whilst no one got all the questions right, the competition was won by Adrian Dearling with runners up, Paul and Christine Dearling and Terry Searle.

Rivieras on the meet included John and Laurene’s lovely ’65, Peter and Sandra’s ’68, Terry Searle’s ’66 (a new one for the boys to look at), and my Wedgewood blue ’64. Unfortunately John Barker’s Riviera was temporarily off the road and Adrian could not bring his ’65 due to having another commitment following our run. It was also great to see the other Buicks on the run including Dave and Colleen Wilson’s 1934 and Adam and Sharon’s Wildcat (another new one for the boys to look at).

Despite a cloudy and wet start to the day, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and there was lots of chatting over lunch at the pub. Thanks to everyone who came along. It was especially nice to meet our new members and see their cars.

Overview of Activities

The 2015 East Coast Meet is shaping up to be a great get-together for Buick members of all States.  Here’s an overview of activities planned for the event.

As many members choose to arrive a little early (as quite a few did at Nambucca Heads), we have decided to include some “Early Bird’ activities for those people who are keen to start having fun early.

Our accommodation for the Meet will be at The Sundowner Breakwall Tourist Park.  This is an excellent location with a wide range of accommodation available and plenty of room to park a Buick beside your unit.  The Park is a very pleasant 8 minute walk along a pretty walkway to the CBD or eastward to the surf beach.  The Sundowner has very generously offered our group a 25% discount for 3 or 4 night bookings, shorter stays than this will be 15% discount.  This means that accommodation for our group will range from $66 to $132 as listed hereunder.  These prices are AFTER discount.

Spa Bayside Cottage 4 berth              $126

Spa Bayside Cottage 6 berth              $132

Spa Riverside 4 berth cottage             $111.50

Spa Riverside cottage 6 berth             $126

Thursday, 3rd September 2015

For the ‘early birds’, we will have a very low key welcome drinks and a cuppa from 5.00 p.m.  You will be able to check in from 4.00 p.m. at cabin 33.

Friday, 4th September 2015

A relaxing day is planned for ‘early birds’ cruising the beautiful Hastings River and stopping for lunch at a riverside resort before returning to Sundowner.

For those people arriving on Friday, check in and a welcome cuppa will be available from 3.00 p.m. at cabin 33.

Our Meet and Greet will be held around the BBQ area adjacent to the above cabins/units from 5.00 p.m. followed by a light casual supper.  This is a great chance to catch up with old friends, make new friends and generally yarn about all things Buick.

Saturday, 5th September 2015

Today our run will take us from the fantastic coastal scenery of the Port area to the rural vistas of the hinterland.  We will see surf beaches, rain forests, grazing country and rivers.  Lunch will be at a country pub.  On the way home we will stop at a very interesting little brewery with tastings and sales available for those who don’t mind a ‘cold drop on a hot day’.

(Please note that the Buick Car Club of Australia Inc. or the organisers of this event do not endorse or condone drinking alcohol and driving so we recommend beer tastings be confined to non drivers.)

An informal dinner will be held at the Panthers Club.  A bus will be provided to and from Panthers to the Sundowner Tourist Park.

Sunday, 6th September 2015

Our Show and Shine will be held in the members car park of the Panthers Club from 9.00 – 11.00 a.m.   Panthers is adjacent to a very large shopping centre so there will be plenty of things to do for the ladies while the boys are looking at cars.

Following our Show and Shine there will be short run to an interesting venue for lunch.

After lunch, feel free to take in any of the other interesting places around this picturesque area.

Our Presentation Dinner will be held at the Panthers Club.  Again a bus will be provided to and from Panthers.

All good things must come to an end, so Monday morning is time to head home and look forward to the next fun weekend of Buicking with a great bunch of Buick friends.

We hope you enjoy the activities we have planned for the Meet.

Make your accommodation booking now and we look forward to seeing you all in Port Macquarie in September.
